SELECTED MAJOR PROJECTS
|
Planning
NSW: Lord Howe Island REP Review : GeoView
managed all aspects of the GIS and mapping component
of this project,
from tender submission, budget management, production
timelines and outcomes. Attributes displayed included
biophysical,
ecological, socio-cultural, hazard and land-use variables.
The project involved data acquisition, data management,
data veracity assessment, data manipulation and spatial
analysis.
GeoView undertook ground truthing, extensive liaison
with authorities, consultants and client. The results
were a
series of 18 maps structured to be compatible and fully
integrated
with existing NPWS & Planning NSW GIS data systems |

CIC – Googong
Eco-Sensitive Land Capability Study: This
project involved thorough research and assessment of
existing data,
particularly in regard to environmental and statutory
constraints. A database was created of all relevant data
containing associated
metadata. This was then used to create a comprehensive
series of 15 maps identifying the characteristics of
the site. Calculations
of land-cover type areas and other spatial analysis was
undertaken. This information formed the basis of an exhaustive
consultation
process involving stakeholders, government agencies and
community groups |

Newcastle
City Council: Tank Paddock & Minmi – development/conservation
scenarios: GeoView managed
project methodologies, budgets, and outputs. The project
involved extensive data capture
and acquisition, data interpretation and manipulation,
data integration and map production, liaison with authorities,
site
visit, workshops & presentations. A series of 22
maps were produced that were used to identify the values
and constraints
of two juxtaposed sites. The results were designed for
use in an interactive workshop. The data served as a ‘tool
kit’, whereby data layers could be turned 'on'
and 'off', facilitating a participatory planning approach

Pacific
Hwy Upgrade - Iluka to Woodburn & Sapphire to Woolgoolga
vegetation maps: Field
survey data collected and referenced using GPS was
imported into MapInfo GIS. Vegetation communities,
endangered ecological
communities (EEC’s) and threatened species distributions
were thematically mapped in a series of illustrations.
Data was consolidated and provided to the client in
MS Excel and
MapInfo format

Main
Arm Village – Development Control Plan (mapping component): Adrian’s
responsibilities in this significant project were the capture,
acquisition, compilation and analysis of a wide range of
data in a multitude of formats. The map series was developed
through
a extensive consultation process involving Byron Shire Council,
consultants, community groups and stakeholders. Attributes
were initially combined to create constraints maps, developable
areas were calculated, and subsequently layout designs developed

ReGenisis
Enterprises - AvalonVale Ecofarm: Adrian
was responsible for the GIS based design and production of
infrastructure and soil maps for site management. Adrian managed
data acquisition, manipulation and map production. The results
were large wall posters used for detailed farm management.
Additional outcomes were planting area analysis, creek buffer
calculations and other spatial calculations.

*Cape
York to Coen Ground truthing Survey - Team 1: Adrian’s
role was to integrate ground truthing data collected using
2 IPAQ PDA’s, vegetation transects, and field survey
notes to produce a series of maps using MapInfo 8. Raw data
collected included locations of threatened species, exotic
species, survey points & drainage crossings, as well a
range of other variables. Data was compiled and mapped to show
the spatial distribution of these features over the Cape York
Peninsular region. The resultant datasets were formatted and
provided to the client in MapInfo TAB and ESRI shape file format.

*Lennox
Eco Village – Constraints Mapping Project: A
complex project involving an ecologically sensitive
site, Adrian prepared a detailed tender submission and developed
a methodology
for categorising the site characteristics and determining
the site’s development potential. Adrian was responsible
for all data acquisition, data management and map production.
An initiative Adrian introduced to collect metadata
for all the mapping characteristics proved vital to assessing
the validity
of mapping results in the later stages of the project.

*Consolidated
Rutile Limited (CRL) – GIS Database Design, construction
and management: Adrian
was integral in all aspects of project management for this
major project. From the initial tender process, composing the
technical application and fee schedules to all technical tasks
and staff training. Adrian conducted four site visits to North
Stradbroke Island involving presentations and workshops to
CRL’s senior management team. Other responsibilities
included managing the operational aspects of the project, including
all software, hardware and network issues. The outcomes of
this work was the establishment of a fully integrated GIS with
a customised search and retrieval system.

Forest – Historical Disturbance Mapping:Adrian
supervised all GIS elements pertaining to this large project.
Tasks included researching, locating and creating an inventory
of historical photography, liaison with the client and other
consultants. The historical images were incorporated into GIS,
land cover classified, digitised and a series of 10 maps produced.
Calculations of land cover areas and graphs showing land cover
changes over time were also produced. |

Hinterland
Coastal Design – House extension (John & Veronica
Reynolds): 3D
drawings were produced for an architecturally designed two-storey
dwelling in Noosa Queensland. Results included site plan,
existing and proposed floor plans, elevations, as well as
timber framing and bracing plans. The project involved site
measure-up, all CAD work using Architectural Desktop 3.3,
printing and digital 3D modelling.
